Georgia Teacher Academy for Preparation and Pedagogy

The Georgia Teacher Academy for Preparation and Pedagogy (GATAPP) is an alternative certification program in Georgia designed for individuals who have a bachelor's degree and want to become certified teachers. The program is intended for individuals looking for a career change and others who did not complete a traditional teacher preparation program.

Cohort Information

Two Cohorts per Fiscal Year

Summer Cohorts begin in June

  • Completed applications are due in early June.

  • Summer cohorts begin with the "Essentials of Effective Teaching" course.

  • This course is a 2 week course in June.

Winter Cohorts begin in January

  • Completed applications are due in early December.

  • Winter cohorts begin with "Orientation".

  • Winter cohorts must attend the complete "Essentials of Effective Teaching" course held the following July.

Summer Essentials will be held in 2 sessions this year

Session time will be 10:00 am - 3:30 pm

Do I Qualify?

  • Secure a job offer for a teaching position in a local system in the First District RESA area.

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in a related field of study.

  • Pass the content area GACE appropriate for the certification area desired and teaching position.​​​​

    • Special Education candidates must pass the appropriate GACE before program completion. ​

  • Hold a teaching certificate, waiver, permit, or proof of application for one by the employing local system.​

  • Complete the Educator Ethics 360.

  • Provide official transcripts from all colleges or universities.

  • Obtain a Georgia Criminal History Report & fingerprinting with your local school system.

  • Submit a complete application packet.
     

Note: Applicants should not have:

  • Completed student teaching in undergraduate or graduate work.

  • Held a Clear Renewable Teaching or Technical Specialist certificate.

How Do I Apply?

  • Application Fee – $55.00 (non-refundable, money order or online)

  • Candidate Assurance Form (click here - upload while completing application)

  • Administrator Assurance Form (click here - upload while completing application)

  • School System Assurance Form/Partnership Agreement (click here - upload while completing application)

  • Participant, Mentor and Administrator data summary form (click here - upload while completing application)

  • Transcripts from all colleges/universities attended.

    • Unofficial transcripts will suffice for application purposes; however, official transcripts are required for admittance into the GaTAPP program.

  • Teaching Certificate

  • Two letters of recommendation (ex:  Former Employer, Supervisor, Principal, etc.)

  • Proof of completion of the GA Education Ethics Assessment 360

  • Proof of completion of the appropriate GACE content-area assessment. All three of the following must be aligned upon admittance and remain aligned until program completion:

    • 1) teaching position

    • 2) GACE content-area assessment

    • 3) certification field the candidate is seeking.

Note: The processing of an application does not begin until the fee is paid. Once completed applications are reviewed, candidates will be notified of application status via email.
